Six Flags?…YES PLEASE

Summer is officially over. Schools back in session, swimsuits and shorts in department stores have been switched to sweaters and pants, the 2-day heat wave morphed back into fog. All summer fun as you know it is over…or is it? Word on the street is Six Flag’s Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo is open this weekend. Why not get in your last hurrah before buckling down for the long cold winter ahead? The sun is always shining in Vallejo, so trade in your books for some theme park thrills!

I know from firsthand experience that this park really does have a lot to offer.  I was lucky enough to get to play in Discovery Kingdom for work one day, with the sole responsibility of having as much fun as possible. (I know, sometimes my job is awesome).
Here’s a brief summary of my experience: Never have I been thrust through the air at 50mph speeds, been spun upside down, been drenched with water, held a sloth on my shoulder, pet a porcupine, and kissed a dolphin, all in the same day.

I began by riding Medusa, the tallest, fastest, and longest roller coaster in Northern America, and I was in the front row. One word: TERRIFYING. Would I do it again? HECK YES. After riding 2ish more times, I decided to explore other areas of the park. I watched the killer whale show, the new Odin’s Temple of the Tiger show, the Sea Lion Show (couldn’t resist), and the Birds of the World show, all of them equally amazing in their own unique ways. My favorite part of the entire day though, was my dolphin experience. After the show I was allowed to go behind the scenes to feed, pet and kiss the playful dolphins. Dolphins are my favorite, so this was a wonderful treat! I now have a new friend. Check it out.  Discovery Kingdom does offer an option to swim with the dolphins, called Dolphin Discovery, but it is popular so look into booking in advance!

It was a great day, and a great place that kids and adults alike can enjoy together. Blue & Gold Fleet even offers a very convenient package that bundles ferry transportation from San Francisco and Vallejo, bus transportation from the ferry terminal and the theme park entrance, and theme park admission. So why not take advantage of this great offer and spend your final days of summer at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom!
